Introduction to the EMI Program of the College of Science, National Chung Hsing University

面對全球化趨勢與2030雙語政策發展藍圖,為厚植理工領域學生之英語力、提升國家整體國際競爭力,國立中興大學理學院積極推動EMI(English as a Medium of Instruction,全英語授課)課程發展與教師支持機制,結合理學院多元科系資源與校內語言教學單位合作,打造具前瞻性之雙語教學環境。

In response to the trend of globalization and the 2030 Bilingual National Policy Roadmap, the College of Science at National Chung Hsing University actively promotes the development of English as a Medium of Instruction (EMI) courses and teacher support mechanisms. By integrating the diverse departmental resources of the College with its language teaching units, the College aims to create a forward-looking bilingual teaching environment that strengthens the English proficiency of students in science and engineering fields and enhances the nation’s overall international competitiveness.
目前本院涵蓋化學、應數、物理、統計、奈米科學、資料科學與資訊計算等系所與研究所,並設有多項在職學位學程與研究中心。全院專任教師80位,學生總數逾2,000人,為培育未來科技與工程領域具備雙語能力之人才奠定基礎。

Currently, the College encompasses departments and graduate institutes in Chemistry, Applied Mathematics, Physics, Statistics, Nanoscience, Data Science, and Computational Science, as well as multiple in-service degree programs and research centers. With 80 full-time faculty members and over 2,000 students, the College provides a solid foundation for cultivating future talents in science, technology, and engineering with bilingual capabilities.

  1. 目標(Objectives):

    培養理工專業領域之雙語人才,強化學生英語溝通與專業表達能力。逐步推動全英語授課,營造英語學習環境,提升教學國際化程度。

    To cultivate bilingual talents in the fields of science and engineering, strengthen students’ English communication and professional expression skills, gradually implement EMI courses, foster an English learning environment, and enhance the internationalization of teaching.
  2. 措施(Measures):

    採「重點培育」與「普及提升」雙軌策略,逐年擴增EMI課程。建立EMI課程支持系統,包含教師發展計畫、課程審查機制、觀課回饋、學習成效問卷等。增聘雙語教學人力,推動校內外語言資源整合,提供教師與學生充分支援。強化跨系所與跨校合作,提升資源共享與制度實效。

    Adopt a dual-track strategy of “Focused Development” and “General Enhancement,” expanding EMI courses year by year. Establish an EMI course support system, including faculty development programs, course review mechanisms, classroom observation feedback, and learning outcome surveys. Recruit additional bilingual teaching staff, integrate on-campus and off-campus language resources, and provide comprehensive support for teachers and students. Strengthen interdepartmental and interuniversity cooperation to enhance resource sharing and institutional effectiveness.
  3. 效益(Benefits):

    提升學生修習專業英文課程之機會,促進本地與外籍學生共同學習。增強未來政府工程、科研與產業人才之雙語能力,強化職場即戰力。穩健推動2030雙語政策,協助臺灣邁向智慧製造導向之國際型雙語國家。

    Increase students’ opportunities to take professional English courses and promote joint learning between local and international students. Enhance the bilingual capabilities of future professionals in government engineering, scientific research, and industry, thereby strengthening their workplace competitiveness. Steadily advance the 2030 Bilingual National Policy and support Taiwan’s transformation into an internationally oriented bilingual nation focused on smart manufacturing.
本院將持續根據執行成果進行滾動式調整,以需求驅動供給、最小成本創造最大效益,打造符合全球標準之雙語教學場域,實現專業與語言能力兼備之人才培育願景。

The College will continue to make rolling adjustments based on implementation outcomes, driving supply through demand and creating maximum benefits with minimal costs. It will strive to build a bilingual teaching environment that meets global standards, fulfilling the vision of cultivating talents equipped with both professional expertise and language proficiency.
